The phenomenon of spawning daughter firms is very common among
the French and Irish young growing firms. 27% of smaller French
(i.e. firms below the median in size) and 55% of larger French
firms spawned daughter firms (excluding acquisitions). 36% of
smaller Irish and 63% of larger Irish firms also spawned daughter
firms, compared with only 14% of smaller Scottish and 27% of
larger Scottish firms. This difference is commented on in the
discussion.
